"In ordinary life, we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich," wrote German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer. It seems that we can now indeed envision a return to "ordinary life" in the foreseeable future, but when that day comes, we want to hold fast to the lessons in gratitude we’ve learned from the pandemic.

With that in mind, we at Comfort Life want to take a moment to say thank you.

Thank you for the hard work that you, your staff, and others in your organization have put in over the past 12 months. Thank you for keeping seniors in your care safe from the most dangerous virus in over a century. Thank you for keeping residents happy even as you yourself were stressed. Thank you for the times you kept family members informed, even while everything was uncertain. For all of that, and for all the extra hours and effort you've put in, and for so much more, thank you.

As we look forward to the end of the pandemic, Bonhoeffer's words are worth revisiting: indeed, "We [always] receive a great deal more than we give." He wrote those words in a more difficult time (1943), from a more challenging place than ours, in which he'd learned to be "grateful for little things." We hope life "becomes [newly] rich" as we remember the pandemic's more positive lessons, like gratitude for all the little things. So, we’re grateful to you, not only for all you’ve done, but for continuing to place your trust in us.
