IN THEIR OWN WORDS

How families use OUR KIDS to find, evaluate, and choose schools

To better understand how families engage with OUR KIDS, we regularly conduct in-depth interviews about their decision-making journey.

These interviews demonstrate the pivotal role OUR KIDS plays in empowering families to make well-informed decisions. Our platform, as you’ll see, complements and amplifies your school’s marketing efforts like no other.

At OUR KIDS, we believe that building authentic and reliable connections between families and schools benefits everyone. The following pages offer a glimpse into how we achieve this through our trusted tools, in-depth insights, and comprehensive resources.

1. Families turn to OUR KIDS for its unbiased and credible perspective.

With OUR KIDS, right away, I felt a level of credibility. I felt that I was going to one place that was unbiased. Like an encyclopedia for all of the schools.”

meaghan

What I really like is that OUR KIDS is factual and unbiased. Unlike many other places on the internet, it’s not just opinion-based.”

meaghan

OUR KIDS is more objective and unbiased, rather than favouring particular schools. I did at some point work with educational consultants, but … they seemed to always push certain schools that weren’t necessarily the best for us.”

olivia

2. Families know schools pay to be featured by OUR KIDS—but that doesn’t change how they use the platform.

I know schools pay to be on OUR KIDS, but that’s alright. Reading your in-depth reviews of the schools especially made me see that you’re an impartial, objective observer. The school chose to [be inspected] and get their OUR KIDS reports, so that shows they’re willing to work with you.”

meaghan

It’s a paid platform, but when I see the reviews, the Q&A you have with the school, that tells me that this isn’t just advertising. You’ve also added your structure and evaluation. And it’s not biased toward any particular school.”

Grace

OUR KIDS is trustworthy, [although it’s a paid platform]. The website has a very good balance of information and resources. You are able to compile information from across Canada in one place, which is something I really loved. It’s a very convenient resource.”

shannon

[Even though it’s a paid platform] OUR KIDS is the centralized, go-to resource for finding schools. It works amazingly for finding schools. You can search on the map. You can search based on the school features. It’s super useful.”

tata

3. Families love the depth and quality of information they find on the school reports.

Reading the OUR KIDS detailed report, it was like experiencing a day in the life of that school. You’re talking with the educators, the principals, the kids. There’s even a passage in the report describing the ambience of the school—the feeling you got when you were there—and I thought that was critical.”

pelagia

As parents, we usually have a clear set of must-haves and then some nice-to-haves. With the OUR KIDS Reports, you can see everything in one place. You can evaluate each school based on specific features. It’s much easier to find the right fit.”

Tata

We kept referring back to OUR KIDS because our needs were quite specific. We were looking for a school with small class sizes and the IB Programme for my son, and the detailed reports were immensely helpful in making our decision.”

shannon

I did a lot of research. I read pretty much every page of your magazine, Canada’s Private School Guide. Private school is a big investment, so I need to find a school that really suits my kids.”

grace

4. Families especially love how OUR KIDS helps them evaluate schools side by side.

I really love the comparison tool. You can compare schools across multiple categories. That helps me to quickly see which school is a better fit for my children.”

grace

OUR KIDS is an absolutely fantastic resource. You can compare schools. It’s absolutely wonderful. You have summaries and you include specific features of the schools.”

tata

I wanted to compare schools and OUR KIDS really helped me do so. You can compare the different programs the schools have, and you can have a big-picture view. It really helped me in my research.”

aizhan

5. Families return to OUR KIDS multiple times—even after school visits.

I returned to OUR KIDS even after visiting the schools, as a sort of refresher. Choosing a private school requires a pretty hefty financial investment. You really want to make sure that you’re making the right choices and finding the best fit for your kids.”

shannon

I turned to the OUR KIDS website a lot. If another parent told me about a [new] school, I would go and find it on OUR KIDS. I’d compare it with other schools on the website.”

olivia

I hold on to this information from OUR KIDS, even after a school visit. I go back and forth. I compare my notes. I often do that several times.”

tat

6. Families see OUR KIDS as different from a school’s website—and as a necessary complement to it.

I rarely use the schools’ own websites, because it seems unclear how different they are compared to another school. It’s more like they focus on their own school and their values, without offering context. I prefer going to OUR KIDS.”

grace

The OUR KIDS Report is very, very different from what you would see on the school website or even in any other material. I found it much easier to digest than going through the different links inside of a school website. In some cases, you have a 20-minute video and then a deeper dive. It’s well-structured.”

farhan

Private school websites aren’t perfect. They have a lot of information, but it’s usually hard to find what you’re looking for. The navigation isn’t flexible, and sometimes there’s just too much irrelevant content.”

pelagia

The schools’ own websites are sometimes designed just for the current parents—families who are already with the school. If you’re new to the school, it’s not as relevant.”

aizhan

7. Families conduct their decision journey through OUR KIDS—from discovery and shortlisting to the final decision.

Using OUR KIDS, we found and narrowed down our options to three. Then I started looking at those three schools in greater detail. And the one that we ended up choosing, you actually had an in-depth report on it. The more I read, the more I liked what their community is like, the way they’re set up, their philosophy of teaching. So I thought, Okay, let’s book a tour.”

pelagia

The OUR KIDS website allows me to go through all the stages of my research. I don’t have to jump from one website to another. Everything is in one place, including the reviews, and it’s easy to find. ”

aizhan

We found a great school for my son through your website. And I had never heard of it before finding it on OUR KIDS.”

shannon

8. Users regularly recommend OUR KIDS to their friends.

OUR KIDS was recommended to me by an education consultant I was working with. And my sister who’s a teacher also recommended it to me.” ”

meaghan

I’m always recommending OUR KIDS to my friends and clients. I have a daycare and my clients sometimes ask me about schools, which is why I also keep coming back to the website. I am a big fan of OUR KIDS.”

parent

We have friends who are immigrating to Canada. Before moving to Canada, I told them that first they needed to visit OUR KIDS to see the schools. They actually came to visit in October for five days only to visit the Toronto expo, to better understand the private education here.”
